How To Give
Brown University is enriched by a community of alumni, alumnae, parents, grandparents, and friends whose philanthropy supports the institution’s academic mission through gifts to the Brown Annual Fund. Brown Annual Fund Leaders distinguish themselves among their peers by making gifts of $10,000 or more* to the University’s Annual Fund within a single fiscal year and are recognized as members of the Carrie Tower Society.
In fiscal year 2008-2009, a total of 766 Brown Annual Fund Leaders, including young alumni and current students, contributed $25.6 million. Since the establishment of the Leadership Program in 2000-2001, the number of Brown Annual Fund Leaders has increased by 209% and their contributions have increased by 335%. These donors have answered the call to make the Annual Fund a philanthropic priority, underwriting the implementation of the Plan for Academic Enrichment and pushing the University to a new level of excellence.
*Young alumni and current students qualify with gifts at lower levels. Learn more about the Young Leaders here.
Brown Annual Fund Leaders Program

The impact of this philanthropy is evident in Brown’s commitment to need-blind admission, expanded support for graduate students, increased faculty, and support for innovative undergraduate research opportunities. Brown’s strengths continue to be enhanced, and, during this truly exciting time, the generous philanthropy of Brown Annual Fund Leaders ensures the ongoing success and growth of the University.
Special Giving Opportunity: Brown Annual Fund Scholarships
Establishing a Brown Annual Fund Scholarship is a wonderful way to see your Annual Fund contribution go directly to work to support talented students. For a minimum gift of $80,000 (paid over four years), a donor may create a current-use Brown Annual Fund Scholarship. The full gift will become part of a student's financial aid package, providing him or her the opportunity to receive a world-class education. Donors receive information about the students being supported by their gifts in each of the four years. Brown Annual Fund Scholarships may be named in honor of the donor or in honor or memory of the donor’s designee. The scholar will be notified of the donor’s generous gift and will be encouraged to communicate directly with the donor.
750,000 will be earned when we secure 825 donors of $10,000 or more.
This represents a 10% increase over last year’s BAF Leader figure of 7
